Soderling advances at Swedish Open

07/16/2010 - Bastad, Sweden (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Top-seeded Swedish stalwart Robin Soderling survived a scare from Italian Andreas Seppi to advance to the semifinals of the Swedish Open.

Soderling, the reigning Bastad titlist and two-time French Open runner-up, outlasted Seppi, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) on the red clay at Bastad Tennis Stadium in two hours, 25 minutes.

Soderling will next meet third-seeded Spaniard David Ferrer, who continued his clay-court success with a thorough 6-3, 6-3 victory over Uruguay's Pablo Cuevas. Ferrer leads the ATP with 31 wins on clay this season.

Two-time champion Tommy Robredo, seeded fifth in this tournament, knocked off second-seeded Fernando Verdasco in an all-Spanish quarterfinal, 6-4, 6-3 on the red clay at Bastad Tennis Stadium.

Robredo, who won here in 2006 and 2008, will face yet another countrymate in the semis, as fourth-seeded Nicolas Almagro pulled away from Croatian qualifier Franco Skugor, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0.
